Eli Njuchi to headline Beerland Festival

Musician Eli Njuchi has confirmed his performance at this year’s Beerland Festival set for March 28 at IJ’s Gardens, formerly known as Mesh Gardens in Lilongwe.

The artist confirmed after the organisers made the announcement through media platforms on Monday morning.

Last year, Beerland Festival organisers announced that he would perform at their year’s closing event at Scalla’s Cafe in December in Blantyre, but he was unable to do so following the tragic accident that claimed the lives of his band members.

Eli Njuchi mantained slow profile after the incident which also led to the cancellation of his Hive Experience annual concert.

However, the Duwa hit-maker recently made an appearance to the stage at the Onesimus versus Armstrong show in Lilongwe where he received an emotional welcome from the fans.

One of the Beerland Festival organisers, Lucy Msowoya, said Eli Njuchi will headline the event and hinted that more artists on the line up of performances will be announced later this week.

She said the team is keen on returning the Beerland Festival to its earlier format, where activities started in the afternoon ended at night.

The change seeks to allow more people to attend and fully enjoy the event as well as address earlier concerns raised by the festival goers, according to Msowoya.

“People have raised concerns about the time artists ussually go on stage. So, we want to correct that and ensure the event runs in a more organised way to give people a better experience,” she said.

Msowoya added that the list of artists will be released in phases ahead of the event and they will share the programme once all is sorted to allow fans to see what performances they should expect and at what time.

“We want fans to enjoy performances in the afternoon as well as at night. As of now, we have not decided yet but we will share the programme once we come to a conclusion on that,” she said.

The festival will feature a mix of live performances and DJ sets, with some of the DJs already confirmed, including DJ Maaz, DJ Thando, DJ Skippy and DJ Mask.

Beerland Festival was established in 2019 and is an annual social event that takes place at various venues in both Blantyre and Lilongwe.

The festival has hosted international acts, including South Africa amapiano musician Scott Maphuma who performed in Lilongwe last year.
